Engines that meet EURO IV emission standards are equipped with highly sensitive exhaust gas utilization systems:
- Sulfur and phosphorus slow down the catalyst and can lead to damage to the catalyst components, leading to ineffective exhaust gas cleaning.
- Sulphate ash blocks the particulate filter, which reduces recovery time, increases fuel consumption and reduces engine power
ACEA has created the ACEA C3 standard for high viscosity HTHS oils (>3.5 mPa.s), reduced content of Sulphate Ash, Phosphorus and Sulphur (Mid SAPS), suitable for use in engines with modern exhaust aftertreatment systems.
Oils that meet ACEA C3 standards are adapted to extended waveforms between exchanges.
