How to read the frequency response measurements of headphones: the frequency is shown in hertz (Hz) on the X axis (numbers at the bottom). The bass band ranges from 20 to 300 Hz, the vocal range ranges from 300 to 3000 Hz, and the treble ranges from 3000 to 20 000 Hz (i.e. details in music). On the Y axis (numbers on the left), the relative volume is shown in dB SPL (sound pressure level in decibels). The higher the graph line, the louder the frequency. For example, the bass in the range of 20 to 100 Hz is much louder in the HD 620S (white line) compared to the HD 600 (grey line). The frequency response in the speakers should be perfectly flat (i.e. All pieces of music are equally loud), but the geometry of the ear and psychoacoustics mean that the frequency response of good headphones looks completely different. Although there is no scientific confirmation yet, most engineers and scientists in the headphone industry will agree that the HD 600 model with additional bass is closer to neutral, “realistic” sound.
