Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ is the official expansion pad for Raspberry Pi 5, which allows you to connect M.2 M Key devices using the PCI Express interface. With it, you can use a high-speed NVMe drive or a compatible PCIe accessory, such as an AI accelerator.

The module connects to the Raspberry Pi 5 via a 16-pin FPC PCIe connector and complies with the Raspberry Pi HAT+ specification. It’s a practical extension to build a faster system, home server, development environment, or more demanding IoT and AI projects.

Note - M.2 NVMe is not M.2 SATA

📌 This overlay supports M.2 M Key PCIe devices, including NVMe drives.

This is not an adapter for M.2 SATA drives. M.2 SATA and M.2 NVMe drives may look similar, but they use a different interface.

For this module, you need a M.2 M Key PCIe drive or accessory. If your drive is marked as M.2 SATA, B Key or B+M Key SATA, it will not be the right choice for this overlay.

Installation with Raspberry Pi 5

The standard Raspberry Pi M.2 HAT+ board comes with mounting hardware that allows you to attach it to the Raspberry Pi 5. The set includes a ribbon cable, a 16 mm connector for stacking, and spacers and screws.
