Mastika, also known as "Tears of Chios", is a natural resin of the evergreen sticky pistachio tree (Pistacia lentiscus), growing in the Mediterranean region.

The original chioska mastika comes from trees growing exclusively on the Greek island of Chios. It is obtained in the process of cutting their bark, as a result of which the resin is freely extracted to the surface from where it is collected and then dried using maltodextrin (polysaccharide produced from starch), which most companies do not show in their composition.
