What is bakopa?
Bacopa monnieri (small-leaved bacopa) commonly called Brahmi belongs to adaptogenic plants, with multidirectional action mainly related to the body's ability to improve memory and support the nervous system. It is a small, climbing herb from the plantain family. It occurs naturally around the world in the temperate to tropical climate zone. Its natural habitat is wetlands such as swamps and shallow bodies of water.
In addition to the appropriate dose, the concentration of bacosides as an active component of bacopa is also important. The name brahmi comes from the word Brahma, which explains the mythical creator in Hindu mythology. According to Indian philosophy, the brain is considered the center of creative activity, thus bacopa is rightly called brahmi as an ingredient that improves this ability.
How does bakopa work?
Small-leaved bacopa is classified as an adaptogenic agent, i.e. increasing the body's immunity and allowing for better coping with stressors of the external environment. In addition, bacopa has a positive effect on mental health, acting calming and anxiolytic, as well as improving memory and cognitive functions and has antioxidant properties. The health-promoting effect of small-leaved bacopa has long been noticed in India, where the plant has been successfully used in traditional Ayurvedic medicine for 5000 years.
Small-leaved bacopa extract is a source of many active substances that positively affect the functioning of the body, among which bacosides are considered the most important. It is a group of compounds belonging to saponins, for which extracts of bacopa are standardized. In addition, bacopa extract also contains a number of other substances beneficial for the body: polyphenols and flavonoids with strong antioxidant properties, phytosterols, tannins or terpenoids.
What standardization and origin of the extract?
Some supplements on the market are based on an extract with a low bacoside content. The extract contained in our product comes from a reputable Indian manufacturer, Akay, and is characterized by a high standardization for bacosides of 50%.
