Citrulline malate (2:1) is a combination of L-citrulline and malic acid, commonly used in peri-workout supplementation. L-citrulline is a non-protein amino acid that is converted to L-arginine in the body, increasing its concentration in the blood.
Mechanism of action
Elevated levels of arginine promote the synthesis of nitrogen oxide (NO), a molecule responsible for regulating the tension of blood vessels. The result is improved blood flow, which can support the transport of oxygen and nutrients to working muscles.
