Perfumes are created from fragrance compositions. Individual compositions (combination of ingredients) are fragrance notes. Such smells develop after contact of the preparation with the skin. Individual substances have different durability – it depends on the evaporation rate of a particular component. The aroma slowly develops (under the influence of the heat of the skin, i.e. pulsating blood), releases and is perceptible to the environment. Substances air out and disappear over time. Modern perfume companies use a structure consisting of 3 different fragrance notes. These are notes: head, heart and base.

HEAD NOTES: The top note of the fragrance is a hint of the head. It is the substances that make up this composition that we feel when we open any bottle of perfume. Manufacturers make sure that the note of the head is intense and tempting with a unique aroma. It is a showcase of the product and convinces the customer to buy. However, we must remember that the upper composition does not develop on our skin at all. This smell will evaporate very quickly in contact with air. The top notes can completely air out even after a quarter of an hour from spraying the skin or hair with perfume (the longest lasts about 30 minutes). In the notes of the head, manufacturers use volatile substances (they are quickly subject to the evaporation process). Most often, refreshing fruit scents are used. In the note of the head of many perfumes we can find aromas of lemon, orange, lime, mandarin, melon, watermelon, pineapple. Herbal fragrances are also popular – green tea, thyme or lavender. In some cosmetics, we can also find the aroma of fir, cucumber, cactus. Less often there are notes of green pepper.

HEART NOTES: The average fragrance composition in the structure of modern perfumes is a note of the heart. We can't smell it right after opening the cosmetic bottle. However, it should appear about 10 - 15 minutes after spraying the wrists. The fragrance compositions that make up this note persist on the skin for up to 2 hours, then gradually turn into a base aroma. The ingredients here form a whole bouquet, which can be described as the quintessence of perfume. Manufacturers use components with medium volatility. An interesting fact is that in branded, essential perfumes of the highest quality (the best ones) fragrances from the heart note can be felt even after 4 hours after spraying with the preparation.

BASE NOTES: The last, upper fragrance composition of each perfume is a base note (base). This note is created by the most durable essential oils and special fixatives (synthetic or natural). Base notes develop on the skin after about 20-30 minutes. It is formed by substances with the smallest volatile properties, thanks to which the fragrance composition lasts for up to 8 hours from the moment of spraying the body. The heavy ingredients of the base note do not have the most intense smell. However, they stay on the skin for a long time and prolong the durability of the perfume. The compositions are dominated by wooden, animal, balsamic and leather aromas. Manufacturers willingly use cedar, patchouli, sandalwood oils, musk, oak moss (it is the basis of chypre perfumes). In oriental perfumes we can also find incense, myrrh, Peru balm, but also sweet almonds, vanilla, honey or slightly bitter cocoa or coffee.
