During short, maximum efforts lasting only a few seconds, our main source of energy are high-energy phosphates found in muscles: adenosine triphosphate (ATP) and phosphocreatine. Muscles have only a limited amount of ATP, enough to sustain intense exercise for 2 seconds. The muscle then breaks down phosphocreatine into creatine and ATP to maintain exercise. Usage:

Creatine should be taken long-term according to one of the following schemes:
