Cybersecurity networking solution to minimize security risks

The WGS-4215-8T2S supports SSHv2 and TLS protocols, providing strong protection against advanced threats. It includes a number of cybersecurity features such as DHCP Snooping, IP Source Guard, Dynamic ARP Inspection, 802.1x port-based network access control, RADIUS and TACACS+ user account management, SNMPv3 authentication and so on to complement it as a full security solution.

Redundant ring, fast recovery for critical network applications

The WGS-4215-8T2S supports redundant ring technology and has a strong, fast self-recovery capability to prevent interruptions and external intrusions. It incorporates advanced ITU-T G.8032 ERPS (Ethernet Ring Protection Switching) technology and Spanning Tree Protocol (802.1s MSTP) in the client network to increase system reliability and uptime in a variety of environments.

The WGS-4215-8T2S can be installed through fixed wall mounting, magnetic wall mounting or DIN rail, making its usability more flexible.

Dual power input for high availability network system

The WGS-4215-8T2S has a strong dual power input system (12V~48V DC or 24V AC) incorporated into the customer automation network to increase system reliability and run time. In the following example, when the 3-pin terminal block stops working, the hardware failover function will be activated automatically to continue powering the WGS-4215-8T2S with the DC plug alternatively without loss of operation.

Environmental resistant design

The WGS-4215-8T2S can be programmed for advanced switch management features such as dynamic port link aggregation, 802.1Q VLAN, Q-in-Q VLAN, Multiple Spanning Tree Protocol (MSTP), Loop and BPDU Guard, IGMP Snooping and MLD Snooping. With link aggregation, the WGS-4215-8T2S allows you to connect high-speed connectivity to multiple ports, such as 16 Gbps fat pipe, and also supports failover. In addition, Link Layer Discovery Protocol (LLDP) is a Layer 2 protocol that helps detect basic information about neighboring devices in your local broadcast domain.

The WGS-4215-8T2S is equipped with robust QoS capabilities and efficient traffic management to enhance business-class data, voice and video solutions. The functionality includes broadcast/multicast/unicast storm control, bandwidth control for each port, 802.1p/CoS/IP DSCP QoS priorities, and adding notes. This ensures the best performance for VoIP transmissions and video streams, and enables enterprises to take full advantage of limited network resources.

Powerful security

PLANET WGS-4215-8T2S offers a comprehensive IPv4/IPv6 Layer 2 to Layer 4 access control (ACL) list to enforce security at the network edge. It can be used to restrict network access by rejecting packets based on source and destination IP addresses, TCP/UDP ports, or defined common network applications. The protection mechanism also includes user and device authentication based on 802.1X ports, which can be implemented with RADIUS to ensure port-level security and block illegal users. With the protected port feature, communication between edge ports can be prevented to guarantee user privacy. What’s more, the port security feature allows you to limit the number of network devices on a given port. Network administrators can now build highly secure enterprise networks with much less time and effort than before.

Friendly and secure management

For efficient management, the WGS-4215-8T2S is equipped with command line management interfaces, web and SNMP.

• With its built-in Web-based management interface, the WGS-4215-8T2S offers easy-to-use, platform-agnostic management and configuration features.
• Text management can be accessed via Telnet and the console port. With support for the standard SNMP protocol, the switch can be managed using any SNMP-based management software.
• What’s more, the WGS-4215-8T2S offers secure remote management with support for SSHv2, TLSv1.2 and SNMP v3 connections that encrypt packet content during each session.

Flexibility and solution for long-distance expansion

The two mini-GBIC slots built into the WGS-4215-8T2S support automatic SFP detection and dual speed as they are equipped with 100BASE-FX and 1000BASE-SX/LX SFP (Small Form-factor Pluggable) fiber optic transceivers to connect to the backbone switch and long-distance monitoring center. The distance can be increased from 550 meters to 2 kilometers (multimode fiber) and to more than 10/20/40/60/80/120 kilometers (single-mode fiber or WDM fiber). They are well suited for use in enterprise data centers and distributions.

Intelligent SFP diagnostic mechanism

The WGS-4215-8T2S supports SFP-DDM (Digital Diagnostic Monitor) function, which can easily monitor real-time SFP parameters for network administrator, such as optical output power, optical input power, temperature, laser polarization current and transceiver supply voltage.
