FOR HIM POWER SUPPLY IS NOT A PROBLEM: SIMPLE AND FUNCTIONAL SWITCH POE+ LANBERG

The PoE+ switch is an indispensable device active in any network structure, using power transmission through structured cabling. RSFE-8P-2GE-120 is dedicated to all installations: home, company, low-current, monitoring, IP, VoIP, cable TV networks, and in particular will be used in alarm, fire and access control infrastructure.

In addition to the original switch function, i.e. support for Ethernet frame movement between ports, it additionally provides power to each device in the PoE/PoE+ standard – 802.3af and at. This allows power to be delivered to devices up to a total of 120 W. And all this together with simultaneous data transmission to them.

This saves resources, space and time that should be spent on the installation of a separate electrical and network installation. This is especially important if the network is distributed and its end devices do not have access to a power source, especially when mounted outdoors.

SOLUTION WITHOUT COMPROMISE - REAL BUDGET POE: 120 W

The switch is equipped with a total of 10 ports, including 8 PoE+ (Fast Ethernet) and 2 Uplink (Gigabit Ethernet) ports. Thoughtful design and attention to the quality of components provides the user with up to 120 W of total real power for end devices, which means the ability to connect simultaneously:

  • 8 IEEE 802.3af devices (max. 15 W per port) or,
  • 4 devices in IEEE 802.3at standard (max. 30 W per port),

The remaining 2 ports (Uplink) are dedicated to the exchange of data traffic between 8 PoE+ ports and external devices. In the case of monitoring/control systems, this is particularly useful because it allows the user to rip the recording from the cameras to the recorder while sharing the stream further (on the second port), e.g. on the local network or on the Internet.

The voltage diagram on the pins for PoE+ ports is as follows: V+ (1; 2), V- (3; 6).

INTELLIGENT POE PORT DISCONNECTION FUNCTION

In most switches available on the market with a small number of ports, it is not entirely clear how they will behave when the available PoE budget is exceeded. There are several options: a port that exceeds the budget or random or the latest connected will be disconnected. In the last case, what will be their order after the power outage and its restoration when they are all simultaneously plugged into the switch?

Lanberg in the RS series switches has introduced innovative solutions that, through the simplicity of the principle of operation, eliminates any doubts as to the mechanics of port operation.

When the PoE budget is exceeded (e.g. through the device connected to port 1), the switch will start disconnecting PoE ports starting from the highest numbering until the sum of loads does not exceed the available budget; while keeping the operation of the remaining ports intact. Those that are disconnected will be alternately disabled and turned on.

The function is primarily dedicated to demanding applications that emphasize safety and continuity of operation, where some devices must operate continuously regardless of the situation. In such cases, Lanberg switches will allow the user to secure critical devices by connecting them to the lowest port numbering.

EXTEND MODE UP TO 250 METERS

Standard switches according to the standard provide the ability to operate devices at a distance of up to 100 m on one section of the cable. However, sometimes it turns out that due to the extensive backbone network and complex environment, a non-standard solution is required when developing cabling and networks that goes beyond the standard. In the case of monitoring solutions, this is a fairly common problem, most often resulting from too long distance between the distribution device and the end device.

Lanberg switches have a function that allows data transmission (max. 10 Mb/s) and PoE+ power supply up to 250 m on one section of cable. Simply switch the button to the “PoE+ Extend 250 m” position on the housing to ensure operation over a longer distance for 1~8 ports.

The solution was introduced for monitoring and IP systems as well as access control, especially if the end devices are located outside without the possibility of installing additional network distribution points.

4 kV SURGE PROTECTION

The switch itself, as well as the devices connected to it, are repeatedly exposed to various threats, including current discharges, which can flow through both power and network cables.

Bearing in mind the safety of devices and their users, Lanberg equipped the switch with an integrated anti-discharge protection system, guaranteeing 4 kV protection for all ports, effectively reducing their damage due to a sharp increase in voltage.

Under standard conditions, network operation will continue without interruptions, the switch will continue to work without any interruptions, and the user gains the safety of the device and infrastructure

MOUNTING KIT INCLUDED - EARS UP TO 10" & 19"

The RS series of switches is characterized not only by the quality of workmanship, simplicity of use, functionality of the device, but also complementarity in terms of assembly and accessories supplied where possible.

Most of the small switches available on the market are supplied for freestanding or 19” installation. Some manufacturers forget about users who want to use their products in smaller home installations or SOHO. And especially where the switches have a small number of ports, and thus a small housing. Thus, they can be mounted not only in cabinets with the mentioned size 19”, but also in smaller ones, such as: 10”.

Lanberg has introduced a set of accessories for the versatile installation of its switches. The RSFE-8P-2GE-120 provides separate mounting ears for 10” and 19” cabinets and a set of mounting screws (except M6). This allows for wider use and greater freedom of installation of the RS series switches.
