hyaluronic acid is a compound from the group of glycosaminoglycans, substances forming the structure of living organisms. Each molecule of hyaluronic acid resembles a bridge suspended in the intercellular space, to which it can “moor” up to up to 250 molecules of water. This property of maintaining tissue hydration is decided by m.in. with features of young skin appearance: tension, elasticity and smoothness.

Hyaluronic acid was detected in the vitreous body of the eye in 1934. Since then, it has been the subject of numerous studies that have confirmed its presence in various tissues (m.in. articular cartilage and synovial fluid). The compound proved to be a grateful object of analysis, which led to the spread of its use in medicine and cosmetology. Over time, it was also discovered that the properties of the substance depend largely on the average size of the molecules studied. Hence the division into hyaluronic acid small molecule (used mainly in aesthetic medicine) and large molecule.

Supplementation of large molecular acid, in addition to increasing elasticity and hydration of various body structures, supports the proper course of processes related to healing of tissue. Large molecules coat the receptors responsible for participation in inflammatory processes, thereby modulating their course. Hyaluronic acid is also involved in increasing the number of new vessels and supporting tissue regeneration mechanisms.

It is also worth mentioning the external use. Large molecular acid does not penetrate into the stratum corneum of the epidermis. It is coated with limiting the loss of water by tissue. This positively affects the moisturization, smoothing and elasticity of the skin. Gel with hyaluronic acid also increases the effectiveness of other active substances, perfectly complementing the formulas of numerous cosmetic and pharmaceutical products.
