Olympus (now OM System) has launched the TG-7, an upgraded compact camera designed to work in extreme conditions. Its durable construction makes it resistant to depths up to 15 m, drops, negative temperatures and crushing forces. It also features 4x zoom, 1cm macro mode, and a range of sensors to capture GPS and environmental data.

Olympus has launched a very durable TG-7 camera, which is an update of the TG-6 model.

The main point of the TG-7 is, of course, its durable construction, which can be taken with you anywhere. The camera is able to withstand immersion to a depth of 15 m/50 feet, falling from a height of up to 2,1 m/7 feet, frost up to -10°C/14°F, crushing force of 100 kg and, thanks to IP68 protection class, large amounts of sand and dust. These specifications are complemented by a field sensor system, a number of sensors – GPS, thermometer, pressure gauge (for measuring water depth) and compass – which capture and record data for each photo. The camera can connect to your smartphone via WiFi and Bluetooth for file transfer.

Inside the new camera, as in the case of its predecessor, there is a 12-megapixel sensor with a size of 1/2.33” paired with a 9-element 4.5-18 mm f/2.0-4.9 lens (25-100 mm focal length equivalent for a full frame). The range of available sensitivity is ISO 100-12800, and shutter speeds range from 4 s (in night mode) to 1/2000 s. The camera allows you to save photos at speeds up to 5 fps in RAW and JPEG formats and film in 4K UHD (3840 × 2160) resolution at speeds up to 30 fps.

The TG-7 body is protected against falling from a height of up to 2.1 meters, frost up to -10° and withstands immersion to a depth of up to 15 meters. The housing measures 113.9 × 32.7 × 65.8 mm and weighs 249 g. For example, people who are not satisfied with such parameters can improve the maximum immersion depth with the camera up to 45 meters with the help of the PT-059 accessory housing suitable for both the TG-6 and TG-7 models.
