To use TOPDON CarPal, you need three things:

Once you have installed the app on your phone or tablet and set up your account, connect CarPal to the OBD2 (DLC) port on your vehicle and follow the instructions displayed in the CarPal app. To keep everything running smoothly, you need a stable internet connection (mobile or Wi-Fi) and download a digital catalog for each vehicle brand you plan to scan

Once connected, the CarPal app offers several different ways to interact with your vehicle.

Whole vehicle scanning

While early OBD2 cars had one or two computers (also called modules), modern vehicles use separate computer modules for each possible system. Engine, gearbox, air conditioning, radio, suspension, airbags and other safety systems, ABS system – whatever you want. Many low-cost OBD2 scanners support only the simplest systems.

However, TOPDON CarPal can scan every module in your car.

Whole-vehicle scanning allows the CarPal application to find each computer module in the vehicle and report any pending, current or saved errors or diagnostic codes in each module. The CarPal app then generates a DIY insight report, which can also be sent digitally via email.

  If you are a more experienced DIYer, TOPDON CarPal allows users to access your vehicle's live data while your vehicle is running.

  Generally, if there is a sensor in the vehicle collecting data – O2,wheel speed, coolant temperature,gearbox temperature, engine speed,fuel injection corrections, ignition drop counters and others – you will be able to watch at the same time,record and play back up to four separate data streams,which can improve the diagnostic process and check if anything goes beyond the normal parameters.

  Ready I/M

  The I/M Readiness function informs you whether the vehicle is ready to pass an exhaust emission test or SMOG. In practice, modern cars check various emission sensors (O2 sensors), EVAP sensors, etc. ), to make sure they are on and working properly.

  If your vehicle fails this test or if the monitors have not yet turned on due to a recent battery disconnection, you may need to repair or continue driving before proceeding with the emissions test. If these systems or monitors fail completely, the Check Engine light will often light up.
