Health and safety standard - office chairs and armchairs in accordance with the new regulations and the Minister's regulation of 2023.
Current Regulation of the Minister of 18 October 2023:
From 2024, it will be necessary to replace the existing swivel chairs with new models that meet certain standards. On November 2, 2023, the Minister of Family and Social Policy announced changes in the regulations on occupational health and safety at positions with screen monitors. The new regulation, published in the Journal of Laws under number 2367, imposes additional obligations on employers and grants new rights to employees. Employers have until May 18, 2024 to introduce changes and transform workstations into ergonomic places.
What features should an ergonomic office chair have?
The Regulation specifies in detail what parameters an office chair or armchair should have:
- Stability: The chair should have a base with at least five legs and wheels.
- Adjustment: It is important that it is possible to adjust the seat height, lumbar backrest, backrest angle, as well as the appropriate dimensions of the seat and backrest, which will ensure a comfortable position and freedom of movement.
- Ergonomics: The seat and backrest should be contoured to adapt to the natural curves of the spine and thighs.
- Movement: The chair should allow rotation around the vertical axis by 360°.
- Adjustable armrests: They should be tailored to the individual preferences of the user.
- Ease of adjustment: Adjustment mechanisms should be easily accessible, intuitive to use and placed in convenient places, allowing adjustment while sitting.
