It is characterized by a very fast rate of digestion – after consumption, the level of amino acids in the blood increases, which stimulates muscle protein synthesis (MPS). One study showed that whey proteins stimulate postprandial muscle protein accumulation more effectively than casein and casein hydrolyzate. This effect has been attributed to faster absorption kinetics and high leucine content [1].
