Aspartame – organic chemical compound, methyl ester of Asp-Phe dipeptide. On food products it is marked with the code E951.

Used as an artificial sweetener (sweetener) in food products, especially such as low-calorie drinks, chewing gum, breath-refreshing dragees. It can also be found in many cold cuts and fish (both in foil and canned food). Recently, it has become more and more common in pharmaceutical products, e.g. in most effervescent tablets. It is also available in the form of tablets that can be used instead of sugar, under dozens of trade names (i.a.: NutraSweet, Equal, Sugar Free, Canderel). In 2009, the manufacturer Ajinomoto decided to change the name of its product to AminoSweet in order to change the negative reputation associated with the current name[4]. It is also used by diabetics (diabetics), like many other sweeteners that do not affect the production of insulin after consumption.
