Hybrid vehicles have their own specifics. The internal combustion engine works in them intermittently, because at low speeds the system switches to electric drive. In typical urban driving, the internal combustion engine can only be started for short periods before switching to electric drive, which often operates at a lower temperature than in the case of a traditional car.

In some hybrid vehicles, the number of engine shutdowns, switching to electric drive and engine restarts may be many times greater than in cars with traditional, non-hybrid drive.

These lower temperatures and many restarts cause contamination because without the additional heat generated by the engine, water and other pollutants remain in the oil. All these issues make it difficult for the oil to protect the engine from damaging wear and tear.

In August 2023, Castrol will start introducing many types of new “small bottles” of products in Europe. These packages with capacities of 0,5, 1, 4 and 5 liters are designed for logistical efficiency and durability of the product.

With the change of bottles and labels in the small packaging segment, we are also making several changes to our automotive engine oil portfolio to simplify our brand’s product architecture. By renaming variants of some of our products, we make it easy to navigate and manage our portfolio. The recipe of these products will not change.

A summary of these changes is below:

• Castrol MAGNATEC Diesel will be converted to Castrol MAGNATEC
• Castrol EDGE Supercar to be changed to Castrol EDGE
• Castrol GTX Ultraclean will be changed to Castrol GTX
