A newer solution is the so-called. optical mouse. One or more electroluminescent diodes illuminating the surface under the mouse, a focusing lens and a CCD matrix are installed in the base of such a mouse. This type of mouse also has a specialized DSP processor (usually integrated with the matrix) used to analyze relative changes in the position of a strongly enlarged surface image. The advantage of this solution is the lack of mechanics, which is easily contaminated and requires frequent maintenance, and the fact that the mouse works on almost any surface (except glass and mirror) and theoretically does not require a pad. The disadvantage of this type of devices, however, is sensitivity to strong daylight, which falling from the side can interfere with the work of the mouse. Furniture that reflects light better can cause light problems.

Laser mouse

One of the latest solutions is the use of a laser diode instead of light-emitting diodes, which further increases the resolution of the mouse and thus its sensitivity. The advantage of this solution is the lack of mechanics, which is easily contaminated and requires frequent maintenance, and the fact that the mouse works seamlessly on virtually any surface (except glass, granite and varnished wood). It does not shine visible light in the eyes. In June 2012, A4Tech introduced Holeless technology, which allows the construction of mice without a laser hole. Thanks to this solution, the laser sensor is protected from dirt, and the mouse can work on any surface – both wet, dry and dirty[4].

Connection

The most common type is a mouse that has a connection to a computer using a cable. It is recommended, for example. for players, due to much lower delays in response to movement, which allows for smoother gameplay.

The wireless mouse does not require a wired connection to the computer. Only the communication module is connected to the computer. Between the module and the mouse, data is transmitted using radio waves (Bluetooth or its own protocol) or in older models using infrared. Such a mouse can be operated at a distance of several to several meters from the computer, depending on the solution used.
