Why should X oil be better than Y? In fact, how many cars so many reviews. The driving culture and treatment of the engine by the driver, as well as timely inspections and replacements of filters, depends mainly on how the oil will perform. If the engine is working optimally, each oil will perform well until the next replacement. The exceptions are high mileage engines that require special treatment and denser oils.

Oils can be divided into three main types, according to the oil base.

• synthetic – are produced from base components on the principle of combining individual chemical compounds; they are the most technologically advanced and the best quality, withstand high thermal loads and have a low viscosity, thanks to which they protect the engine well even at low temperatures
• mineral – formed in the process of refining crude oil; they are characterized by much higher viscosity compared to synthetic and are not uniform; they can contain sulphur or hydrocarbons and form nagars in the engine. They thicken very much at low temperatures.
• synthetic – produced on the basis of mineral oils with the addition of synthetic; they are an intermediate product. Different manufacturers use different proportions, so the same type of oil from another manufacturer may have slightly different properties.

Satin oil viscosity classification

SAE class determines the temperature ranges at which the oil retains its optimal properties (density and viscosity), i.e. in winter it is not too dense and in summer it is too rare. SAE class adjustment is required for proper engine operation under given conditions. They are marked, for example, SAE 30 or 15W40. Universal oils are, for example, 10W40 or 15W50 suitable for winter and summer.

• 0W, 5W, 10W, 15W, 20W, 25W - optimal viscosity for minimum temperatures (respectively) -40 to -15 degrees C
• 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 - optimal viscosity for maximum temperatures (respectively) +20 to +60 degrees C

Quality classification of API oils

• S – oils for gasoline engines.
• C – diesel engine oils.
• F – oils for selected diesel units (high-speed, 4-stroke).

The full designation of engine oils according to the API consists of two letters (although diesel oils may also have a number at the end). The further the number (after S,C or F), the higher the quality of engine oil. Accordingly, full records may be as follows: SM, SL, SJ or CI-4, CH-4. CG-4.

Do not keep oils on the shelf (the more open) because they have a limited shelf life and lose their properties over time!
