Coles 4038 Studio Ribbon is one of the most respected ribbon microphones in the world, used for decades in professional recording studios. Its characteristic structure and sound make it eagerly used by sound engineers during recordings of acoustic instruments, wind sections, drums and vocals. The microphone is distinguished by the natural, warm nature of sound typical of ribbon structures, and its robust housing indicates its purpose for intensive studio work.

The characteristics of octal directionality (figure of 8) mean that the microphone collects sound evenly from the front and back, while effectively rejecting signals coming from the sides. This property is particularly useful for stereo recordings using the Blumlein technique, as well as for recording two sound sources set opposite each other.

The frequency response ranges from 30 Hz to 15 kHz, allowing you to capture both low, deep tones and clear details at higher frequencies. Sensitivity of -65 dB (W.R.T. 1V/Pa) is typical for ribbon microphones and requires the use of a microphone preamplifier with appropriate quality and performance. With a maximum sound pressure level of 125 dB, the microphone can handle louder sound sources without the risk of distortion. The output impedance of 300 Ohms ensures compatibility with standard signal tracks used in professional studio equipment.

Important information about use: for the microphone to work properly, a tripod mount with a Coles 3-pin to XLR adapter (model 4071B or 4072) is necessary, which is not included in the kit and must be purchased separately.
