LAiV Crescendo CHORUS is a stereo GaN power amplifier with the ability to work in bridge mono mode, derived from Harmony GaNM. Based on Gallium Nitride amplification technology, CHORUS delivers 50W per channel in stereo mode and 120W truly balanced power in bridge mono mode, stably from 8Ω to 2Ω. Compact in form and uncompromising in character, it brings the performance of the GaN amplifier to the Crescendo price level, naturally fitting into both high-end two-channel systems, as well as modern desktop configurations.

GaN Technology for Audiophile Amplification.

At the heart of the Crescendo CHORUS is Gallium Nitride (GaN) transistor technology, representing a fundamental advancement over traditional silicon MOSFETs in audio power amplifier design. GaN transistors switch at ultra-high speeds, allowing CHORUS to generate an output signal virtually indistinguishable from the original analog waveform. This directly translates to lower total harmonic distortion, wider audio bandwidth, and higher overall efficiency.

Unlike conventional Class D amplifiers that rely on slower switching elements, the GaN power amplifier topology used in CHORUS achieves its performance without the thermal losses and signal degradation that often accompany high output power. The result is an amplifier that runs cooler, takes up less space, and delivers a sonic signature that is transparent, dynamic, and effortlessly detailed.

CHORUS utilizes a stamped aluminum chassis and a 160W power supply compared to the 250W unit in the GaNM. Nevertheless, CHORUS continues to excel in transparency and resolution due to its wide frequency response and the inherent advantages of GaN technology. For listeners seeking GaN amplification's musicality and speed without the premium Harmony series, CHORUS delivers exactly that.

Two Modes. One Amplifier.

The Crescendo CHORUS operates in two distinct modes, each optimized for different system configurations and listening priorities. Whether you need a versatile stereo power amplifier or a dedicated monoblock with a true balanced output, CHORUS adapts to your listening setup.

Stereo Mode.

In stereo mode, CHORUS functions as a single-ended amplifier with two independent channels, delivering 50W per channel into 8Ω or 80W per channel into 4Ω. Both XLR (balanced) and RCA (single-ended) inputs are supported, though the internal amplification remains single-ended regardless of input type. The balanced input offers superior THD and SNR performance. This is a plug-and-play configuration for most two-channel systems, offering broad compatibility with virtually any preamplifier or DAC.

Bridge Mono Mode.

Switching to bridge mono mode transforms CHORUS into a fully differential, true balanced amplifier. A single input is received and internally converted to a balanced signal, driving both amplifier sections in a bridged configuration for 120W of true balanced power into 8Ω and 4Ω, stable down to 2Ω. Peak instantaneous power reaches up to 165W. Even when using an RCA input, the signal is internally converted to a balanced signal path to fully leverage the fully differential amplification architecture. Overall performance in mono mode is superior to stereo, with improved noise rejection and dynamic range.

For the ultimate performance, pair two Crescendo CHORUS units, with each unit operating in bridge mono mode. Each unit takes one channel, converts it to a balanced signal, and delivers 120W of true balanced output. With complete electrical separation between left and right channels, separate power supplies, and separate amplification stages, crosstalk is completely eliminated. The result is a wider, more precise soundstage with better imaging, a configuration that elevates GaN amplifier performance to a reference level.

Balanced and Single-Ended Inputs.

CHORUS supports both balanced (XLR) and single-ended (RCA) inputs. The balanced input is recommended for superior THD and SNR performance, as well as for longer cable runs and in environments where noise rejection is critical. Both inputs are available simultaneously, with input selection accessible from the unit.

Notably, in bridge mono mode, even an RCA input is internally converted to a balanced signal path, ensuring full utilization of the fully differential amplification architecture.

Advanced Protection with Microcontroller Startup.

CHORUS features three layers of protection to safeguard both the amplifier and your speakers. Upon startup, an onboard microcontroller performs a full system check before engaging CHORUS into operational mode, verifying that all circuits are operating within safe parameters before passing any audio signal.

  • DC Offset Protection detects DC offset at the output and disconnects the speaker terminals to prevent driver damage.
  • Overcurrent Protection monitors output current and limits drive to prevent damage during prolonged high-level playback.
  • Overheat Protection triggers an automatic shutdown if internal temperatures exceed safe thresholds, protecting components and extending lifespan.

Designed for Continuous Operation.

CHORUS is designed for continuous operation, providing optimal performance and convenience without the need for powering down between listening sessions. Standby power consumption is under 2W, and idle power consumption remains below 20W, making continuous operation both practical and efficient.

The chassis itself acts as a heat sink. Due to the high efficiency of GaN technology, the chassis remains only slightly warm during normal operation, eliminating the need for fans or active cooling.

For proper power sequencing, turn on your DAC or preamplifier first, then the CHORUS. When powering down, turn off the CHORUS first, then your source components.

The microSD card slot located on the underside of the unit allows for firmware updates to improve operational stability and future enhancements. CHORUS is highly versatile and can work with the vast majority of DACs and preamplifiers on the market, and is not limited solely to the Crescendo VERSE.
