How exactly does PEST PROTECT for starlings work❔

✔ The PEST PROTECT starling repellent creates a natural odor barrier around the sprayed trees and plants that is irritating to starlings (and other birds attacking fruit). Thanks to this, birds bypass the sprayed area without damaging the fruit.

What species of birds does the preparation work on❔

✔ PEST PROTECT has been tested primarily for the deterrence of starlings (Sturnus vulgaris), which most often damage fruits in orchards. In practice, the odor barrier also effectively repels crows or pheasants that may try to feed in crops. However, it is not intended to combat birds of prey (e.g. hawks) or water birds.

Is PEST PROTECT for starlings safe for bees and other beneficial insects❔

✔ Yes. The preparation is based only on organic raw materials that do not interfere with the activity of bees, bumblebees or other pollinators. When spraying, we recommend that the mist does not settle directly on the flowers during the intensive flowering phase - although the product itself does not contain toxins, the physically settling film sometimes makes it difficult for insects to access the nectar. The best moment of application is the beginning of the fruiting season (opening of green fruits), when bees are less with flowers.

How large an area can be secured with one package❔

✔ 1kg of PEST PROTECT in the proportion of 1% (1kg per 200L of water) is enough to protect about 1ha of orchard (rows of fruit trees). If you use a higher concentration (2%), in practice you will cover a slightly smaller area (approx. 0,5ha), but the odor barrier will be stronger in a shorter period of time. For very narrow or low rows, you can also use a concentration of 1% and two sprays per week to ensure the continuous presence of fragrance.

How long does one application last❔

✔ Under normal weather conditions (without heavy rainfall), the odor barrier lasts up to 10 to 15 days. After heavy rain (over 20 mm of precipitation per day), it is worth renewing the spray after 7 to 10 days, because some of the preparation could have been washed off. In a season with high starling pressure (e.g. during migration or with strong density of birds) streaks can be used at the bark every 7 days to maintain the continuity of the barrier.

➡ Usage:

1 Fill the washer (pressure or pump) with clean water.

2 Add PEST PROTECT in a ratio of 1 - 2% (1 kg per 200 l of water). For smaller quantities: 50 g (approx. 1 scoop) per 10 l of water is 1% concentration.

3 Mix the solution evenly. If foam is produced, release mixing or use an antifoamer (e.g. a few drops of dishwashing liquid).

4 Spray uniformly trunks and lower parts of branches so that the smell floats in the feeding zone of birds.

5 Repeat treatment every 10 - 15 days or after heavy rainfall.
