The industrial 6-channel relay module Waveshare designed for minicomputers from the Raspberry Pi Zero series is an advanced HAT expansion card, enabling precise control of actuators. The overlay integrates two key interfaces of industrial buses on one board, implementing independent communication in half-duplex mode. The advanced MCP2515 controller connected to the SN65HVD230 transceiver and controlled via the SPI interface of the minicomputer is responsible for operating the reliable CAN network. Communication in the RS485 standard is carried out by an efficient SP3485 chip associated with the UART port, which is equipped with the function of automatic hardware switching of RX/TX transmission direction. The device features a wide input voltage range from 7V to 36V DC, and the built-in impulse voltage stabilizer LM2596 delivers a stable current of 5V directly to power the logic system.

The design of the module places particular emphasis on multi-stage galvanic protection and the safety of the host minicomputer in difficult environmental conditions. Integrated one-piece unibody power isolation and magnetic isolation of SI8642ED-B-IS digital signals effectively cut off mass loops and eliminate electromagnetic interference. Additional protection in the form of photocopier optoisolation prevents the transmission of high voltage pulses from relay actuator circuits whose maximum contact load capacity is up to 10A for 250V AC or 30V DC voltage. The safety of internal electronics is enhanced by built-in TVS diodes, recoverable PTC polymer fuses and reverse polarity protection diodes. The whole was enclosed in a solid protective housing made of ABS plastic, adapted directly for safe mounting on a standard DIN industrial rail. The device is ideal for use in advanced building automation systems, IoT installations, Modbus distributed networks and industrial actuators.
