PCIe to M.2 HAT module with I2S PCM5122 sound card for Raspberry Pi 5
Advanced overlay for Raspberry Pi 5 combining PCIe interface for M.2 NVMe SSDs with professional PCM5122 audio digital-to-analog converter. The module allows you to boot the system from a fast disk, and thanks to the integrated Jack 3.5 mm and RCA connectors, it offers high-quality sound output for multimedia applications without the need for manual installation of drivers.
Key features:
- Compatible with standard 40-pin GPIO connector for Raspberry Pi.
- Professional stereo DAC PCM5122 controlled by I2C bus (audio via I2S).
- Integrated Jack 3.5 mm headphone output and RCA connector for speakers/amplifier.
- Supports sampling rates up to 384 kHz and 32-bit audio resolution.
- M.2 M KEY connector supporting SSD NVMe drives (size 2230 / 2242) with bandwidth up to 8 Gbps.
- Support for booting the system from an SSD and compatibility with M.2 AI modules.
- No need to install external drivers (driver-free).
Connection to Raspberry Pi 5
The overlay connects to the Raspberry Pi 5 minicomputer using a special 16-pin ribbon cable dedicated to the integrated PCIe interface.
NVMe and SSD support
The device supports Solid State Drives with M.2 connector in popular sizes 2230 and 2242. It works in Gen2 mode for superior performance, allowing you to quickly boot your Raspberry Pi 5 system directly from the built-in SSD.
High quality PCM5122 audio chip
The PCM5122 stereo chip is responsible for decoding and audio signal quality. The whole is controlled from the I2C bus, while the digital beep is streamed through the I2S interface.
Connector for M.2 NVMe drives
The M.2 connector integrated on the bottom only supports drives running as standard and NVMe protocol. SATA-based cards are not supported.
LED signalling diodes
To make it easier to monitor the operation of the device, the board is equipped with dual LED indicators, presenting the current status and activity of the module in real time.
Jack 3.5 mm and RCA outputs
Audio connectors: a standard 3.5 mm jack for playing audio using classic headphones and an RCA (cinch) connector for convenient connection of external audio systems.
Built-in EEPROM memory
The presence of the built-in EEPROM chip in the HAT architecture – this allows for automatic loading of the structure in the Raspberry Pi OS, which frees the user from manual configuration of drivers.
