The USB 3 port supports bus-powered drives with a current requirement of 0,9 A (900 mA) or less, as well as drives connected to the power supply.
The USB 3 port provides a current of 0,9 A (900 mA). This will charge devices that require 1,0 A current at a slightly lower rate than the factory power supply. Larger devices, such as tablets that require 2,1 A or higher, will not be charged. The USB 3 port is not powered when the host computer is turned off or in "sleep" mode.
When connected to the power supply, the docking station will draw power up to 8W from the power supply instead of from the host computer bus. Depending on the adapter connected, the docking station can transmit up to 92 W to the host computer. Energy not used by the docking station and its ports is transferred to the host to charge the battery, if applicable.
