AI HAT modules are expansion boards for Raspberry Pi 5 that include a built-in AI accelerator chip: the Hailo Neural Processing Unit (NPU). The Hailo NPU module enables Raspberry Pi 5 to run hardware-accelerated AI models locally, eliminating the need to transfer data to a remote cloud server for processing. This AI-powered approach improves performance, reduces latency and helps maintain data privacy. AI HAT modules use the newer Raspberry Pi HAT specification, marked with a plus sign (+). There are two models of AI HAT modules: AI HAT+ and AI HAT+ 2. AI HAT modules are available in a variety of performance variants, measured in teraoperations per second (TOPS) of inference performance.

The AI HAT+ module is available in 13 TOPS or 26 TOPS (INT8)

AI HAT+ 2 is available in a single 40 TOPS (INT4) variant
