Evacuation sign – the basis for safety during threats

✅Every building in which people will be staying must have an appropriate evacuation route marking (such as the evacuation door sign) and fire signs that are useful in life-threatening situations.

✅These signs are even necessary for some buildings to be put into service. This is the case for schools, kindergartens, cinemas, theatres, shopping malls, apartment blocks or office buildings. Also, workplaces should have the required evacuation plates located in strategic locations.

Evacuation safety signs – basic data

✅Evacuation characters belong to the category of information signs. This means that they tell the person looking at them where the collection points are for evacuation or in which direction to go to exit the building. These signs also show where the exits and doors are located, as well as objects such as a first aid kit, defibrillator, emergency phone or drinking water.

✅Tables used as designations of the escape route have a very characteristic appearance and are very clearly visible on the walls of the building or on the poles on which they are sometimes mounted. They have the shape of a rectangle or square in a white fluorescent border. The pictogram or inscription on the evacuation sign is also white. As for the evacuation signs characteristic for them is green.

✅It is extremely important in their case that they are legible, and the interpretation of the information on them did not cause any problem. In life-threatening situations, people panic, behave irrationally and do not think clearly. Therefore, evacuation signs in accordance with PN-EN ISO 7010 are very simple and usually boil down to a pictogram or a short message such as exit, escape route, push, pull or attention degree. As a result, it only takes one glance at a given evacuation sign to immediately even instinctively know what it represents and how to behave.
