The BOSCH company was the first in the world to offer its users a tool powered by a lithium-ion battery - the BOSCH IXO screwdriver.

BOSCH's lithium-ion technology, although more expensive than traditional nickel-cadmium (NiCd) or nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries, offers a number of advantages in return.

Lithium-ion technology - no memory effect , i.e. the battery can be recharged at any time, regardless of whether the energy supply is exhausted in 50% or 90%.

A small degree of self-discharge after 30 days of non-use, the battery still has over 96% of the nominal capacity, while in NiCd / NiMH batteries, the loss of capacity is as much as 25%, thus after about 4 months traditional batteries will self-discharge, and the lithium-ion battery from BOSCH will have over 85% of its capacity.

Built-in ECP system - electronic battery protection system: this system is offered in all BOSCH cordless tools powered by lithium-ion batteries, thanks to which the battery cells are supervised by electronics, which protects the battery against any damage. This system controls the output power and rotational speed of the device and lowers it in the following cases:

• tool overload
• deep discharge of the battery
• engine overheating
• battery temperature too high

The above criteria can lead to damage to the battery cells and a significant shortening of the service life, which is why BOSCH, by offering the ECP system in cordless tools, provides users with a long period of trouble-free operation, both of the tool and lithium-ion batteries.

LED battery charge status indicator (in batteries with a capacity of more than 3.0 Ah) there are 3 built-in green LEDs that inform the user about the current battery charge status and the remaining energy reserve. The built-in switch activates the lighting of the diodes, which accordingly inform:

• 3 LEDs on – the battery is charged from 66 to 100%
• 2 LEDs on - the battery is charged from 33 to 66%
• 1 LED on - the battery is charged from 5 to 33%
• 1 LED blinking – the battery is charged below 5%

COOL PACK type housing - is a special battery housing that allows optimal heat dissipation from the inside of the battery, thanks to which BOSCH lithium-ion batteries cool down almost 50% faster than conventional batteries, and the built-in cooling system with adjustable fan speed in BOSCH chargers always provides ideal conditions for charging the batteries.

Side protective ribs and rubber covers protect the battery against any mechanical damage, the battery retains full efficiency and functionality even after a fall from a height of 3 meters onto concrete.
