With the ability to configure QoS, Gigabit Plus switches can detect different types of network traffic and assign the desired priority to time-sensitive traffic, such as voice and image transmissions. This helps improve the output quality of related applications such as VoIP, multimedia content broadcasting and video conferencing.

Gigabit Plus switches can help you divide large networks into smaller, more manageable groups to which you can assign selected resources, rather than making them available to all users. This feature improves overall network performance, increases network traffic security, and allows you to use available network resources more efficiently.

All Gigabit Plus switches are equipped with a cable diagnostic function that allows users to easily check the status of network cables. In the event of any problem, this feature helps you quickly locate the cable failure point and remove the fault much faster, potentially saving many hours of service technician work.

By listening for IGMP communication between hosts and routers, the Gigabit Plus switch can create a map that determines which links need which multicast streams. The Gigabit Plus switch will thus be able to transmit multicast traffic only to links that report such demand. The most important advantage of the IGMP protocol is that it helps optimize multicast transmission performance at Layer 2. This is especially useful for multicast IP applications that use available bandwidth intensively, such as IPTV.
